Brothers, keep a peaceable spirit in your pursuit of truth. Avoid pride through fixation on your
own views and the temptation to tear others down. A prophet keeps his heart right. God be with you!
The pursuit of truth proves a vital life endeavor. The prophet in every man stands called to seek
the truth and teach it by word and deed. Many avenues exist to obtain truth. Aside from reading
and other information resources, we gain knowledge in a dynamic way through conversation.
Some of the most profound truths men learn are encountered in discussion.
However, men must be alert to occasions where pride gets in the way. One’s ego can thwart the
pursuit of truth in two key ways: First, sometimes a man may deem his opinions more imperative
and must be heard. And during every conversation one endures or tolerates what another says in
order to “put in his two cents”.
Secondly, a man may approach knowledge with an intention to critique and criticize. One can
hardly expect to reach any worthwhile truth when the aim is to tear down. There underlies no
charitable openness to reach meaningful conclusions. Guard your soul from flawed motives and
infected approaches.
When Jesus spoke to members of the Jewish scholarly class these proceeded with deep malice.
They were full of jealously and suspicion; and were only interested in trapping Him in His
speech. These scholars were hell-bent to kill Him, Truth Itself, for what He taught.

own views and the temptation to tear others down. A prophet keeps his heart right.
