Most men require more time outdoors. Take care to get frequent open-air exposure. Brisk
walking invigorates the body. Clears the head. Opens up the spiritual life. And proves
inspirational!
Recently I took a high impact walk in the La Habra Heights area of Los Angeles county, at one of
the highest points in the region. Ascended much altitude. Great trails. Amazing vistas. Catalina
Island noticeable in the distance. Could probably appreciate the ocean-blue color were not for
the smog and haze.
Oftentimes taking these opportunities for outdoor stimulation brings to mind their necessity.
Power-walking or hiking helps a man revive so much within him. Invigorates the body. Keeps
the heart pumping. Clears the head. Helps a man stay alert. Opens up the spiritual dimension.
Even prayer becomes easier. Walking provides occasions where men receive many ideas and
inspirations. And provides a forum to think through some lingering problems.
Brothers, do what you can to get outdoors more frequently. Fresh air is vital. Sunlight is key.
Moving the body routinely proves fundamental for overall health. Some experts say people
should be outdoors 2 hours daily at a minimum. The human body receives effective stimulation
through walking. The ancient Greeks considered walking a superior exercise. And for at least 3
miles a day.
At this last trek a dog kept me moving swiftly. No question, “man’s best friend”. Having this dog
was great incentive to venture out and to move more quickly than normal. If it takes a dog to
get you on the trail: then get one. It can serve as your “accountability partner”.
Do what it takes to get that much needed open-air exposure. The vast majority of men require
more time outdoors. Overall it will bring any man, any person, to better health. And, leave your
cell phone behind.
